A fancy French 'lawn club' is taking over a Vancouver parking lot next month

False Creek or the south of France?

Ever played pétanque on the shores of the south of France while sipping cocktails and snacking on crepes?

Well, if the cost of a plane ticket is the reason you haven't done that, there's a local opportunity to do something similar. Just replace the south of France with False Creek and translate pétanque to a rolling ball sport akin to lawn bowling.

For five days between August 1 and 7 the Lawn Club is taking over a parking lot on the Concord Pacific property at 811 Carrall St., next to BC Place and the Plaza of Nations.

It'll bring pétanque terrain, a "Clubhouse" for drinks and crepes, and a park-like atmosphere to the concrete patch.

"Guests can show off their skills on the lanes, then retire to the Clubhouse to enjoy a refreshing cocktail and chef-made crêpes - the ultimate way to experience summertime in the city," reads a press release.

Tickets for the event are $35 and include access, a 45-minute game, and one Grey Goose drink. The vodka brand is sponsoring the event, which is similar to the minigolf event they held in Gastown in 2021. Tickets can only be purchased in groups of two, four, and six, so no pétanque-ing alone.
