Christmas characters of all sorts may be spotted at this year's CandyTown event in Yaletown. The popular free family-friendly festival and market is a holiday favourite in Vancouver.

Yaletown will be donning its best Christmas apparel this weekend as it morphs into CandyTown.

The free outdoor winter street festival will bring a holiday air to the downtown Vancouver neighbourhood with live ice sculpting, a station for kids to write letters to Santa, and holiday characters roaming the area.

There will also be horse and carriage rides on offer, along with a street market and live music from carollers.

Local restaurants will be holding a CandyTown Cocktail Tour as well (self-guided, of course) with participants like Earls Yaletown, Yaletown Brewing, and The Spritz.

The festival will be based around Bill Curtis Square (near the Yaletown-Roundhouse SkyTrain station) and Helmcken Plaza. It'll be running  to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.
