With the (hopeful) return of summer weather, city skaters can look forward to the return of the Canada Skateboard Open.
The series of skateboard competitions is a chance for those looking to test themselves against the rest of the city. The competition is free to enter and has divisions for adults and kids.
"This exciting two-day event offers something for everyone and all levels of skateboard ability. Our newly added community day provides inclusive programs for beginners to experienced skateboarders and brings together the local skateboard community," say organizers in a press release.
It'll be taking place at the Hastings Skate Park; the competition will be limited to the bowls. June 3 will be the community day with workshops, games and prizes. June 4 will see the competition start.
The competition will be split into four divisions: 12 and under girls, 12 and under boys, men's open and women's open. At the end, more than $4,000 will be handed out in awards and prizes.
The event will make other stops this summer, including Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Toronto and again in Metro Vancouver (Port Coquitlam) on July 30. Throughout the open over $30,000 in prizes (including cash prizes) will be awarded.
People can register online in advance of the competition or day-of in person, as long as they arrive before things kick off. Those not able to compete in person can enter the online competition, which is open to all Canadians.
