Krampusmarkt is returning to Strange Fellows Brewing again this year.
While the Vancouver Christmas Market celebrates one aspect of a traditional German Christmas, the Krampusmarkt will celebrate another; the Krampus is the demon-like character from folklore who travelled with St. Nicholas. Together, the pair either rewarded good children (St. Nicholas's job) or punished bad ones (the Krampus's duty).
The Krampus will be in Vancouver for the three-day market, ready for photos much like Santa Claus is in a mall. In this case, the photos will be a fundraiser for the Vancouver Food Bank.
"Krampus invites you to join him and a merry party of artists and makers for Krampusmarkt," reads a press release.
Aside from the Germanic Christmas horror, the market will feature more than 30 booths by local artisans with plenty of gift ideas, like art, ceramics, chocolates, jewellery, and more. And browsing can be accompanied by a brew.
"With a glass of cheer in hand, explore an array of wonderful objects of desire," reads the release.
KrampusMarkt will run from Friday, Nov. 29 to Sunday, Dec. 1. Tickets for the Friday, which will only run from 6 to 8 p.m., are $25 but include a drink (beer, cider, or wine) and nibbles. On Saturday and Sunday, it's $5 for general admission at the door.
