BIG retail news, literally: MUJI has announced they're opening a massive store on Robson Street in Vancouver.
At 14,507 square feet of retail space, this will be MUJI's biggest store located outside of Asia, and opening date has been set for December 2.
MUJI says they will carry over 4,500 products, including their full Canadian range of merchandise, and will also use the store to introduce a new store concept, items, and services hitting Canada for the first time ever.
Among those features are an in-store coffee bar done in partnership with Vancouver's Ethical Bean, customized label printing, and a custom fragrance bar.
“The goal of the Robson Street store is to deepen our relationships with local communities while offering new services and products in a distinctive retail space," says Toru Akita, president of MUJI Canada.
The Robson flagship store comes a few months after the highly-anticipated launch of MUJI's first Metro Vancouver location, at Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.
MUJI is among a handful of Japanese brands making big strides in the Western Canadian market, including Uniqlo and Miniso.
MUJI outlines all of the concepts and features of their flagship Vancouver store in detail:
MUJI Labo
MUJI Labo began as a special project in 2005 to explore basic concepts in apparel from a free and creative approach. “Labo” stands for laboratory, an appropriate name as the purpose of the line is to experiment with new styles, materials and manufacturing processes. What MUJI Labo learns through product development eventually becomes standard apparel in MUJI stores, reflecting practical design and conscientious materials that consider both the producer and the environment. MUJI Labo collection is only available in select MUJI flagship stores around the world.
MUJI Coffee Counter
MUJI Canada partnered with Ethical Bean Coffee, a leading supplier of 100% fairtrade certified, organic coffee. Based in Vancouver, Ethical Bean is committed to social responsibility, global awareness, and environmental accountability, while constantly seeking new ways to make their coffee both just and better. The coffee counter at MUJI Robson Street will serve simple and affordable coffee by the cup.
MUJI YOURSELF
MUJI YOURSELF is a customization service including embroidery, stamps, gift wrapping and label printing. While stamps, embroidery and gift wrapping are already available in select Canadian stores, the Robson Street location will offer label printing for the first time. A vast selection of labels and personalization options will allow customers to customize various MUJI products such as stationery, storage, furniture, etc.
Aroma Bar
The Aroma Bar will allow customers to create a customized fragrance blend by choosing from more than 40 essential oils. In addition to regular MUJI essential oils, customers will have many more options to further personalize their home with unique scents.
MUJI Robson Street is located at 1125 Robson Street, and will open at 10 am on December 2, 2017.
