Nickelback is one of three bands getting stars on the Granville Street StarWalk in June 2023.

Over 300 people have been honoured with stars on Vancouver's Granville Street in recognition of their significant contributions to B.C.'s entertainment industry and cultural landscape.

The Granville Street StarWalk, much like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is made up of internationally famous names like Nardwuar, Bryan Adams, Micheal J. Fox, Randy Bachman, and Michael Bublé, plus more obscure local celebrities such as the notorious Penthouse Nightclub owners the Filippone Brothers.

The stretch of sidewalk, managed by the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame (BCEHOF), started filling up with bronze stars in 1992 and this month, three new stars were added in honour of iconic Canadian musicians or bands: Nickelback, Loverboy, and drummer Rocket Norton.

“These inductees are especially exciting because they represent the swagger that B.C. entertainment deserves given our massive impact on the international stage,” says BCEHOF President Bill Allman. “It’s definitely a series of rock and roll inductions with millions of album sales around the world.”

Nickelback joined the celebrated ranks on Wednesday (June 28) with a presentation ceremony in the afternoon ahead of their concert at Rogers Arena.

In 2009, the four-piece group comprised of Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, and Daniel Adair, was named the “most successful rock band of the decade” by Billboard.

During the 2000s they were the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S. behind only The Beatles and “How You Remind Me” was the number-one most-played song on U.S. radio that decade according to Nielsen Soundscan, with over 1.2 million spins.

The numerous accolades are cited by BCEHOF as the reasons for gifting the group a star, perhaps a tad behind the times given that Nickelback was awarded a spot on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto in 2007.

They were also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame earlier this year.
