What makes art "art" is often all about how it's seen, and who is seeing it. That's why a dynamic new optical illusion art installation just revealed in Vancouver is a great way to bring World Sight Day into focus.
Muralists Sandy Pell and Steve Pell were commissioned by local eyewear retailer Clearly to create this unique piece of art that is in the Woodward's Atrium in Gastown.

The mural gets its illusionary properties thanks to the different views accorded the observer from various vantage points. That shift in the viewer's perception is exactly what Clearly and the muralists wanted to highlight when it comes to eye sight--what we see affects how we engage with the world.
"We wanted an art piece that reminds Vancouverites the importance of eye health by creating a piece that plays with perception to showcase the importance of vision in one’s perception of how they see. It is especially important in our world today," says Arnaud Bussières, Managing Director of Clearly, in a media release.
The mural will be on view from Thursday, October 12 until Tuesday, October 31 at 101 West Hastings Street during regular operating hours (Monday to Friday 7 am to 10 pm and Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 10 pm).
"We hope the Clearly mural helps spark conversation and raise public awareness about vision impairment as a major international public health issue,” says mural artist Steve Pell.
