A bowl of sugary cereal is the breakfast of champions for kids and a late night snack for lazy grown ups, and while it's quite possibly the easiest thing to "cook" at home, the thrill of getting cereal in public with your peers remains alluring.
This August, there's going to be a one-day cereal bar pop-up event in Vancouver. Run by a group called "Saturday Mornings," the event will take place on Saturday, August 11.

Saturday Mornings recently made a run for the border to stock up on American cereals that Vancouverites often crave, and they're also seemingly packing some nostalgia in those bowls.
The group describes their raison d'etre:
"Remember waking up early on Saturday mornings to eat your favorite cereals and watch cartoons? Rushing to grab your Pop Tart before commercials end? Begging your mom for Lucky Charms AND Fruity Pebbles? Saving all your marshmallows for last? Well we're bringing it back."
Specifically, they're bringing it back on the 11th, from 10 am to 6 pm, on Venables near The Drive. Admission is free, but you'll be buying your bowls, and it's cash only.
The organizers have curated five "signature bowls" using "a mix of local favorites and hard to find overseas brands." They'll have vegan and gluten-free options, and one for dogs, too. But supplies are limited, so when they sell out, that's it.
Cereals they're using include:
- Fruity Pebbles
- Cookie Crisp
- Trix
- Cocoa Pebbles
- Cocoa Puffs
- Golden Oreo O's
- Lucky Charms
- Cap'n Crunch (Berries)
- Reese's Puffs
- Honey Bunches of Oats
- Dippin' Dots
- French Toast Crunch
- Oreo O's
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch
It seems like Saturday Mornings is planning on doing multiple pop-ups, with an aim to open a permanent cereal bar in Vancouver. A couple of years ago Vancouver saw a popular pop-up cereal bar event (though it ultimately was revealed the organizers were a local boutique PR firm showing off their rebranding) with all proceeds donated to charity.
