Every once in awhile I stumble across something in our city that's so incredibly awesome that it's hard to contain my excitement over it. One of my favourite things in the world is being able to share these things with you through V.I.A. with the hope that you'll enjoy them even a fraction as much as I do. Today I'm sharing one of those things.
I was puttering around on Granville Island (and by puttering I mean I was picking up some fresh fruit from the market and eating fish n' chips for lunch) when I bumped into an actual store called The Granville Island Broom Co. At first glance it's a store that sells handmade brooms and at second look they're actually a custom broom manufacturing facility that specializes in handcrafted brooms of all shapes and sizes. Pictured below is Jori Bojm, one of the three proprietors of the business, trimming some broom corn (I think that's what it's called) in front of a bunch of brooms that are hanging to dry.
Jori started the business with sisters Sarah (pictured below) and Mary Schwieger whose bloodline runs deep in brooms - their parents have been crafting similar sweeping devices for the past 20 years in the Kootenays.
They make brooms in all shapes and sizes, all very carefully hand crafted and any of them might look good in your house or in the hands of a friend as a gift. I'll leave you to visit them on Granville Island and find out more about what they do. Here's their WEB SITE and FACEBOOK.
