Running can sure work up your thirst, so why not make beer your race refreshment of choice? It's all in good fun (and for a love of good beer) when the Canada Beer Run hits Vancouver this month.
Taking place April 15, the Beer Run is a grown-ups only annual race that will feature stops at five Vancouver breweries:
- Start Line - Big Rock Brewery
- 1st stop - Red Truck Beer Company
- 2nd stop - Andina Brewing Company
- 3rd stop - Off The Rail Brewing Company
- Finish Line - Parallel 49 Brewing Company
The race is done in four "waves" with staggered start times to keep things moving, and the max course distance is 8.9 km. You can pre-party at the starting spot 20 minutes ahead of your race time.
Here's what they promise at each hoppy pit stop:
"All breweries will be sampling 7-8oz of their finest hand crafted beers and have its own unique atmosphere that will energize you for the next leg of the route. Live entertainment, fresh air, beer education, brewery tours, beer games and of course.....beer drinking!"
Rather than worry about your finish time, the Beer Run--which take place in a number of Canadian cities each year--is about having fun. Costumes are encouraged (but kids and strollers on the course are a no).
Plus, there's a charitable component: $5 from every registration will go to the Canadian Mental Health Association. The event is definitely expected to sell out. If you do miss the Vancouver one, there's one in Nanaimo the following Sunday, if you want to travel.
