Despite being called off, a popular music festival will go ahead this summer.
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival (VFMF) is one of the several music festivals that was cancelled this year, including one of Metro Vancouver's most anticipated festivals.
After an outcry from local fans, the VFMF was revived and will take place July 14 through 16 at Jericho Beach Park.
"Thanks to an outpouring of support, goodwill and dedication, the 2023 edition of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival will carry forward a great legacy of musical excellence and eclectic discovery," announces VFMF organizers in a May 11 news release.
Around 40 performances will take to the three daytime and one evening stages during the festival weekend, with additional artists still to be announced.
Festival gates will open at 3 p.m. on July 14 with music filling the park from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 15 and July 16.
This summer attendees can expect acclaimed artists Calexico, women's music icon Ferron, talented Joachim Cooder, award-winning William Prince, and music legends Joe Henry and Albert Lee on the stage.
There will also be musical acts and dance performances from all over the world, including traditional Persian music, Italian tarantella, Brazilian forró, and flamenco.
Alongside folk tunes and rhythms, there will be a variety of food and artisan vendors at the festival.
Tickets are $135 to 200 for the whole weekend; kids 12 and under are free to attend (but must be accompanied by an adult). Purchase passes online.
