Two jazz legends are headed to Vancouver to play two shows as part of the 2025 jazz fest.

The Richard Bona Asante Trio and Bill Frisell Trio will be playing shows this June as part of the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Both Richard Bona and Bill Frisell have Grammys for their jazz albums and have each spent decades in the international jazz scene, building up impressive bodies of work on their own and with different groups.

"Bona is a Grammy-winning bass player, composer, and multi-instrumentalist in world, jazz, and Afropop music," reads a press release from Coastal Jazz, the group that organizes the jazz fest. "Frisell is a world-class guitarist and composer who has played the Vancouver International Jazz Festival numerous times."

Bona, originally from Cameroon, moved to Germany and France to pursue his passion before establishing himself in New York. Beyond playing, recording, and performing music, he's been involved in the jazz world as a professor and venue owner in New York.

Frisell has been playing for more than four decades; his first show as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival was in 1986.

The Richard Bona Asante Trio plays on Monday, June 23, while the Bill Frisell Trio plays on Tuesday, June 24. Both shows are at the Vancouver Playhouse.

Tickets for both are on sale now and range from $55 to $80.
