Studio Ghibli has produced many well-known films including "My Neighbour Totoro," "Princess Mononoke," "Spirited Away" and "Kiki’s Delivery Service."

Japanese animators Studio Ghibli has been one of the most popular movie studios in the world thanks to its series of critically acclaimed films released since the 1980s.

Among them are some of the biggest films out of Japan, and some of the most popular traditionally animated films not made by Disney, garnering fans around the world and a long list of awards.

Among the most popular are the cult classic My Neighbour Totoro (although it may have grown beyond cult status at this point), Spirited Away (which until recently was the highest-grossing Japanese film ever), and The Boy and the Heron (which won many major awards including the BAFTA and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature).

Studio Ghibli films are famous for a variety of things, from beautiful art to whimsical stories. Not least among their attributes are their soundtracks, mostly composed by Joe Hisaishi, who's won numerous awards for the work.

A group of Vancouver musicians have formed the Ghibli Jazz Orchestra. The 18-person group will be playing a show next month focusing on the music of Studio Ghibli and related material.

Several of the pieces will be arranged by members of the orchestra as well.
