In what promises to be an exciting match-up, the Atlanta Dream and the Seattle Storm will face off on the court in Vancouver for the first-ever Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) regular season game played outside of the United States.
Taking place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Rogers Arena, the game will be the fifth for the WNBA played in another country; the league has previously hit the hardwood in England, Mexico, and Canada. Specifically, the WNBA has played a "Canada Game" twice, first in Toronto, and earlier this year in Edmonton. In Edmonton, the Storm defeated the Los Angeles Sparks.
The WNBA has enjoyed tremendous growth, seeing record-breaking digital consumption and merchandise sales in 2024, and that includes in Canada. Canadian viewership increased by 175 per cent from 2023 this year, according to the WNBA.
Canadians have even more reason to get excited about the WNBA shooting hoops in the Great White North; in 2026, the league will expand to include a new team: The Toronto Tempo.
In Vancouver, the Dream / Storm game should be exciting, as both teams boast some big names and accomplishments.
The Storm celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2024 and has had 19 playoff appearances. On its roster this year have been nine-time All-Star Nneka Ogwumike, six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd, and six-time All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith.
Over on the Dream - which had two consecutive playoff appearances in 2023 and 2024 - are 2022 Kia WNBA Rookie of the Year Rhyne Howard,
WNBA all-time leader in rebounds Tina Charles, and Mississauga, ON native Laeticia Amihere.
Ticket information, broadcast details and the start time of the game will be announced in the coming months. Fans can register to be notified of pre-sale ticket access online.
