Popular South Korean bakery chain, Paris Baguette, is opening its first locations in British Columbia on Friday, including one in Coquitlam at 311 North Rd.

A taste of Paris has arrived in Coquitlam’s Koreatown shopping district on North Road, south of Lougheed.

Paris Baguette is officially opening its second café and bakery in B.C., at 311 North Rd., on Friday, Dec. 20.

The other is in Vancouver and it opens the same day.

Ironically, the Coquitlam location is a bit of a return to familiar environs for the chain that was actually founded in Seoul, South Korea, in 1988.

By 2004, it was the top bakery in the country and had spread to locations across South Asia before branching into China and, in 2005, the United States.

In addition to the two B.C. locations, there’s four in Alberta and another recently opened in Ontario.

According to Forbes Magazine, many of the franchisees are Korean immigrants who developed a love for the brand back home.

According to a statement on the company’s website, Paris Baguette prides itself on baking all its pastries, cakes and breads on-site, usually in full-view of the customers out front.

“Our vision is to re-establish the bakery café as the heart of the community,” said the statement.

“There’s an inherent joy in the food we serve and the desserts we craft.”

Some of those desserts include Parisien staples like chausson aux pommes, pain au choolat, feuillete au chocolat as well as an assortment of croissants and pastries.

The bakers also craft a variety of mocha and brioche doughnuts, tarts and cakes, along with savoury items like four cheese quiche and croquettes.

And, of course, baguettes, breads and various sandwiches are also on the menu, with an extensive lineup of warm, cold and iced beverages to wash them down.
