A Vancouver staple for authentic casual Mexican fare is bringing one location's chapter to an end this month. La Taqueria is closing down its downtown Vancouver location at 586 Hornby St. The last day of service will be June 14.
The lease has come to an end for La Taqueria on Hornby, according to a representative for the restaurant. Instead of re-committing to the brick-and-mortar space, wheels are already in motion for the restaurant to debut a new food truck for its nearby set-up just one block away outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. Currently, the La Taqueria cart at that spot is on the smaller side, so this is an exciting bit of growth for the operation.
You can expect to catch the new La Taqueria truck there as summer officially gets underway.
La Taqueria opened up the Hornby Street restaurant in 2017, and, at the time, it marked the growing independent chain's fourth location. The address had previously been one of Vancouver's many Steamrollers - a local chain that used steam to cook burritos that faded from the restaurant landscape entirely over the past few years.
For its part, La Taqueria remains incredibly popular, continuing to garner acclaim, like earning Silver just this May in the "Best Chain" category of the Van Mag Restaurant Awards, among other accolades in its history.
La Taqueria has several locations in Metro Vancouver, including its original Hastings Street restaurant, as well as in Mount Pleasant (where you'll also find their incredible brunch menu), in North Vancouver, and its newest outpost in Burnaby at the Amazing Brentwood. Additionally, La Taqueria operates a location in Victoria.
