Considered Brazil's top açai brand, Oakberry is set to bring its bowls and smoothies to Vancouver as part of a major expansion strategy.
Oakberry will open five shops in Vancouver, starting with its first in late spring in Kitsilano at 3139 W Broadway.
Before getting the first Oakberry up and running in Vancouver, the brand will debut in Calgary in mid-May. Oakberry currently operates a handful of shops in Ontario in the Greater Toronto Area.
Oakberry was founded in Brazil in 2016, and has franchises in over 30 nations, including the U.S., France, and Australia. It was in Australia that Western Canada's Master Franchisee, Carter Friesen, first encountered the açai bowl and smoothie business.
“We are beyond excited to bring Oakberry to Vancouver, a city that embraces a wellness mindset and appreciates fresh, nutritious ingredients,” said Friesen in a May 2 media release.
Considered a "superfood," açai is a berry native to the Amazon rainforest. The berry's pulp is used in fresh smoothies and bowls, which Oakberry offers in various options with different add-ons and toppings, like granola, fresh fruit, and chia seeds.
When it comes to the other four Oakberry outposts in Vancouver, there will be a shop downtown in The Post development on Georgia and one opening this summer in the West End. The brand is also looking to Gastown and Cambie Village for its other locations in the city.
Further, Oakberry will expand with another five stores this year in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
