Kingsway is one of Vancouver's major roads, and if you've driven along it near Fraser Street in the past couple of years, you may have noticed that an odd-shaped building with a vintage feel has undergone a lovely revitalization.
The building is at 776 Kingsway, and as Kirsten Reite Architecture points out in a recent Instagram post, it is "a standout building in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood originally designed in the late 1940s by architect Swinburne A. Kayll."
KRA worked on modernizing the Art Deco/Modern-style building with Bon Constructors, ensuring they were "honouring its historic charm."
Now the next chapter is in motion for the commercial property, as it is set to become a second Vancouver location of Calgary's Analog Coffee.
Analog has been in the coffee game for over a decade. "The first Analog was opened in 2011 at the Calgary Farmers Market, followed by the 17th Ave location right in the heart of the city’s beltline in 2012," explains the company's website.
In Vancouver, Analog debuted in Yaletown in April 2023 in a former Blenz shop.
With the addition of the 776 Kingsway location, Analog will have three B.C. cafés; the company also has a café in Kelowna, in addition to several in Calgary.
Analog joins a list of tenants at 776 Kingsway going back nearly 80 years. According to the Vancouver Archives, the building was home to Plimley Auto Distributors in 1949, then Kiddi's World Kiddies Furniture. More recently, it was an appliance recycling store up until 2017, when renovations began.
No opening date information is available yet for Analog Coffee's second Vancouver café location.
