After sitting vacant for over a year, a little West End restaurant space is finally getting a new tenant.
Cardero Café, a cozy nearby coffee shop, is setting up a second location just a few blocks away at 1105 Davie Street.
The Davie Street space, set back from the street in a mini strip mall-style plaza, had last been home to La Churreria, a cafe specializing in churros, ice cream, and Mexican-style beverages. The churro shop, launched as an off-shoot of taco shop Los Amigos across the street, shuttered in early 2019.
"At Cardero Café, we are family-run, local business and business owners in Vancouver for the past 6 years," shared owners on Facebook this spring.
The business is best known for their baked goods, sandwiches, and other casual cafe fare. Additionally, Cardero Café sells a number of specialty Latin American groceries. Their original location on Cardero - often referred to as Cardero Bottega - is situated in a charming old house, and is considered by many to be a favourite "hidden" café and shop in Vancouver.
Signage on the 500-square-foot Davie Street space is up, and Cardero Café says their second "neighbourhood coffee shop" location will be opening soon. Follow them on Instagram @carderocafe for updates.
