Carthage is no longer on Commercial

Carthage Cafe has closed on Commercial Drive. Indo Chinese Street Wok is currently renovating the space.

Carthage Cafe's name is no longer a part of the food scene on Commercial Drive, again.

The Tunisian-French restaurant was originally opened in 2007 at 1851 Commercial Dr., offering up a variety of Mediterranean dishes, including lamb shanks and seafood with French and North African flavours (Carthage was a city in what is now Tunisia).

It remained there until 2020, when it flipped to BC Donair. However, that only lasted a couple of years, and Carthage returned to Commercial in 2022.

Earlier this year, though, ownership quietly closed up shop.

The space won't be empty long, though. Indo Chinese Street Wok is renovating the space to open its first sit-down location in Vancouver.

Currently, the fusion kitchen is situated at 1001 West Broadway, but only as a takeout and pick-up operation. While the restaurant's social media accounts declare it's vegetarian, a recent post on Instagram notes "non-vegetarian items" are coming.

A menu for the incoming restaurant hasn't been released, but an online menu is available for the original Indo Chinese Street Wok right now. It's made up of noodle and rice dishes, along with sandwiches and pastas. There are also several snack options, including paneer, deep-fried cauliflower, and more.

An opening date has not been announced.
