In 2017, Dave's Hot Chicken was a pop-up stand in a Los Angeles parking lot. The late-night, cash only hot spot specializes in Nashville Hot Chicken, the food trend that has been heating up over the last couple of years.
Fast forward a few months and Dave's settled into a permanent storefront, and then a couple of years later was opening additional locations in L.A., with plans to expand across California, and the nation. They currently operate five locations in Southern California.
Now Dave's horizons have leaped the border, with the restaurant announcing recently they have "inked a franchise agreement with Obelysk Foods Ltd., led by John Bitove, founder of the NBA Toronto Raptors, to open up 30 locations in Canada, focused initially on Ontario and British Columbia," according to industry publication QSR.
Bitove credits a trip to L.A. and a visit to Dave's with his daughter for his desire to get on board and build the biz up north.
No word yet from Toronto-based Obelysk on where the new franchises will launch specifically, though it seems likely Toronto and Vancouver are on the top of the wish list.
