Ever been in a "Boodle Fight?" Hungry for anything adobo? This April, restaurants across Canada - including here in Metro Vancouver - will take part in the nation's first-ever Filipino Restaurant Month, an initiative designed to fire up tastebuds and inspire travel to the Philippines.
Backed by the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) and the Philippine Consulate General (PCG), Filipino Restaurant Month finds restaurants offering prix fixe menus during April, each highlighting their own take on Filipino dishes and ingredients.
Filipino food is integral to the country’s diverse culture with each region having their own unique and traditional recipes that are passed on from generation to generation, explains the PDOT.
In British Columbia, eight restaurant and bakery locations are taking part, all of which can be found within Metro Vancouver:
- Max's Restaurant - Vancouver
- Pampagna's Cuisine - Vancouver
- Grandt Kitchen - Surrey
- Lyra Lou Cakes - Surrey
- Kumare - Delta and Richmond
- Smokehouse Sandwich Co. - Richmond
- Plato Filipino - New Westminster
Menu details from participating restaurants will be shared by each venue, but you can expect to find an exciting variety of Filipino fare from sisig (an adventurous dish made with pork jowl) to all sorts of ube treats.
"Through our various dishes, we hope to inspire Canadians to explore Filipino foods and through cuisine, develop a better appreciation for our culture," says Consul General Zaldy Patron.
