Get ready for long lines and what many say is some of the best fried chicken as the second Vancouver outpost of Filipino fast-food giant Jollibee opens its doors.
Jollibee Canada revealed Tuesday (Oct. 18) that its location at Broadway and Cambie will officially open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 20.
Jollibee is one of the new tenants occupying retail space at 510 West Broadway, the new build on the southwest corner of Broadway and Cambie. Signage for the fast food franchise cropped up in 2021.
Known for its Jolly Crispy Chicken, available in pieces and on sandwiches, and items like a fried peach mango pie, and Filipino-style spaghetti, Jollibee is considered by many to be the "McDonald's of the Philippines."
The brand first arrived in Canada in 2016 in its headquarters city of Winnipeg; now Jollibee operates locations in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area; Calgary; Edmonton; and Regina. In February, Jollibee opened its first location in Vancouver, located downtown on Granville Street. There are over 1,200 Jollibee franchises worldwide, including in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, the Middle East, North America, and Italy.
In January 2021, we also learned Jollibee was going into a new 3,347 square foot build at 12101 72nd Ave in Surrey's Strawberry Hill shopping centre.
Back in 2018, Jollibee revealed ambitions to open 100 stores in Canada within the next five years, including some in Vancouver.
The global brand is "on a mission to become one of the world's top-five restaurant chains," according to a media release.
The new Broadway and Cambie Jollibee will be the chain's 25th location in Canada, with more locations on the way.
"The outpouring of excitement and support we received in Vancouver earlier this year was overwhelming," said Maribeth Dela Cruz, President, Jollibee North America in a media release. "Jollibee has an amazing fanbase here, and we are eager to expand our footprint across this beautiful city and provide convenient locations for everyone to enjoy – next stop, Broadway & Cambie!"
