This is the first summer for the Kapow! food truck and they've revved up their lineup of epic handhelds to include a reel-y tasty (and massive) new item.
The Fil-Eh! has just hit the smashburger concept's menu and is available to grab and go or sit down and enjoy at Kapow!'s home base at Electric Bicycle Brewing in Mount Pleasant.
Featuring a tempura-battered and fried piece of cod as its centrepiece (and heads up - it's huge!) the Fil-Eh! features a house-made tartar sauce with tobiko, pickles, and shredded lettuce on a soft bun.
The new fish sandwich is one of a couple of planned additions to Kapow!'s menu for summertime eats; they're refining a couple of ice cream sandos in collaboration with Hype Chocolate that will be available soon.
Kapow! launched in December 2023 as the on-site food offering for Electric Bicycle Brewing Co. in Mount Pleasant. It's the project of local hospitality pro Jacob Sweetapple, who has been well-known on the cocktail scene for over 15 years and has been in the role of Managing Partner of Notion Concepts since 2021. Tasked with heading up menu development for Kapow! is another established Vancouver chef, Alessandro Vianello, who heads up his own Vianello Hospitality, and has consulted on many top-notch menus across town.
For its part, Electric Bicycle (20 E 4th Ave) opened in 2018 and has a few food concepts teamed up with the taproom over its tenure, including grilled cheese and even sushi. The Kapow! menu pairs well with the beers, for those who are opting to dine-in at the brewery, whether it's indoors or on its streetside patio.
Electric Bicycle's specialty is beers that are fruit-forward, particularly sours. Their Slurpee Machine, on tap right now, is a refreshing nitro sour with hints of mango that is a great match for the Fil-Eh! (and a side of loaded tots).
With the Fil-Eh! on the menu, Kapow! has a new "secret menu" option, which is a piece of fried cod with tots; just ask for Fish and Chips.
