Almost three years ago to the day we learned that the much-missed 70s throwback hangout The Rumpus Room was being resurrected in Mount Pleasant, and now comes word the Rumpus Room as we know it is no more.
The restaurant at 2301 Main Street (home once upon a time to the storied Foundation) closed up about a week ago for a "renovation," but we know now Rumpus Room's owner David Duprey (also of The Narrow, Uncle Abe's, and the Emerald, among others) has teamed up with local restaurant veterans Christina Cottell and Shoel Davidson of Gringo's and Dixie's BBQ to launch Slim's BBQ.
Taking a hearty (and meaty) cue from Dixie's run as a sit-down restaurant on Hastings - which closed its storefront back in the summer of 2019 to focus on catering, take-out, and delivery - Slim's BBQ will feature Austin-style fare, cocktails, and beer, with a laid-back vibe.
We don't know the full menu yet, but diners can expect things like in-house smoked brisket sliced to order, smoked pork butt, smoked and grilled pork ribs with a peach-chipotle glaze, hot links, and fried chicken with gravy. We're also going to see options like build-your-own BBQ platters (perfect for digging into with your household bubble) and a fried chicken sandwich.
More dishes are in the works, including more veg-friendly options, and plans are to offer dine-in, take-out, and delivery for lunch and dinner, with brunch coming soon.
Slim's BBQ is prepping open its doors officially on February 1.
