Vancouver chef Annabelle Choi has soft opened her own venture, named Annabelle's Café, in a small Chinatown storefront, serving baked goods and coffee (with gelato to come soon)

One of Vancouver's veteran bakers is opening the doors to customers at a bakeshop cafe of her own.

The soft launch of Chef Annabelle Choi's Annabelle's Café in Chinatown begins Thursday, August 1 and runs through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until pastries are sold out. We can likely expect more details about hours next week and beyond to be announced soon, too.

Choi, whose resume includes a role with Matchstick Coffee and as the chef de cuisine for Joe Pizza (the original Kitchen Table operation in Gastown that was swiftly replaced by its DiBeppe concept), has steadily grown a fan base for her baked goods and has also taught baking classes under her Annabelle Choi Studio banner.

This spring, Choi took over the space at 620 Quebec St vacated by Say Hello Sweets in February. The plant-based dessert and frozen treat shop had operated there since 2019.

For Annabelle's, Choi is launching with coffee and pastries, like a kouign amman with cardamom and goat cheese and guava turnovers, and coffee.

The cafe will also soon add gelato to its menu, however, Choi has noted on social media that she is still working out some consistency issues stemming from the new equipment.
