Remember when a local sandwich shop managed to lure big star Liam Neeson himself to come in for a (free) bite thanks to their sidewalk sign?
That's Big Star Sandwich Co., which got its start in 2013 in New Westminster, and now has locations in Burnaby, Langley, Richmond, South Surrey, Surrey Central, and Maple Ridge.
While the sandwich superstars cover a lot of territory in the Metro Vancouver region, they have yet to set up shop in Vancouver - until now.
Recently, Big Star Sandwich revealed it was opening its eighth location, and this one is at UBC's Wesbrook Village. (So, not technically the City of Vancouver, but we're going to count it as Vancouver nonetheless.)
The menu at Big Star is based around hearty sandwiches made on filone, a bread they describe as a cross between a baguette and ciabatta. "The filone has great sauce absorption and retention," describes Big Star. They also offer rye bread or wraps as other options.
The sandwiches feature housemade sauces and come in creations featuring deli cuts, slow-roasted roast beef, pulled turkey, and fresh veggies. Some locations also serve breakfast sandwiches.
No opening date for the UBC outpost of Big Star is set yet, but the business says they should be open by late 2022. "Just in time to help the students recover from their finals week," jokes the sandwich shop.
