French fries (or a fried potato of some kind) topped with cheese curds and gravy is the basis for a classic Quebecois poutine, and while the quintessential Canadian bar snack is good as-is, the riffs on the national dish can be stellar.
Poutine cravings can come along at anytime, but Vancouverites who don't mind clogging an artery or two may want to direct their attention to nine delicious days this fall when eating poutine can actually do some good in the community.
Poutine With Purpose is a popular week-long fundraising event that began in Calgary, and has since expanded to Victoria. Now Poutine With Purpose will make its Vancouver debut this fall.
Running Sept. 27 through Oct. 5, 2019, Poutine With Purpose Vancouver offers diners the chance to eat and enjoy a poutine at any of several partner restaurants, and for every poutine sold, a healthy meal is provided to a youth in need through charity partner Mealshare.
Mealshare is the “buy a meal, give a meal” program that teams up with restaurants in multiple cities; one or more dishes on a restaurant menu is the designated Mealshare item, meaning for every one of those dishes sold, a donation is made through Mealshare to get a meal to a youth in need through local organizations.
