Considered one of the city's top spots for steaming bowls of Japanese noodle soup, Vancouver's Ramen Danbo is poised to extend its reach a little further with the addition of a new restaurant location on the North Shore.

Ramen Danbo lists 1445 Lonsdale Ave in North Vancouver as one of its "opening soon" locations.

The noodle shop will be taking over Krua Thai, which closed earlier this year after a whopping 28 years of business at the Central Lonsdale address.

When it comes to ramen, fans in Vancouver often cite Danbo as being among the best in town.

The first Danbo ramen restaurant opened in Japan just over 20 years ago, however, the chain's first locations outside of its home country were the two Vancouver locations - the first of which, at 1833 W 4th Ave in Kitsilano, opened in spring 2015. The restaurant was immediately acclaimed for its ramen and consistently draws line-ups for seats, as does its second branch on Robson Street.

Danbo is known for its Fukuoka-style tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen crafted in the Kyushu Hakata style, served with thin noodles, however, the restaurant has earned widespread praise for its plant-based ramen, catching the attention of activist group PETA for its vegan offering.

Earlier this year, Ramen Danbo took over a third restaurant space in Vancouver's Kerrisdale neighbourhood at 2277 W 41st Ave, though that location remains listed as "opening soon."

In addition to its soon-to-be four Vancouver locations, Ramen Danbo has restaurants in Seattle and New York City.
