Restaurant on False Creek waterfront closes after more than a decade

Renovations are underway for a new restaurant already at the address

For more than 10 years Branas restaurant sat overlooking False Creek.

However, the Mediterranean grill at 617 Stamp's Landing recently closed and renovations for a new restaurant at the same address are already underway.

"We are permanently closed," announces the website. "Thank you for your business over the years, please look out for the new ownership coming soon!"

The family-run restaurant with a deck over the Heather Civic Marina carried a variety of dishes from the region, including souvlaki, lamb chops, and Greek fisherman's soup; the connection to Greece came from the family's heritage.

"Inspired by simpler times, Branas is named after owner John Vranakis’ grandparents. Jianni and Anna Branas lived a simple life in a small village in Crete," states the restaurant's website.

Along with the food, Branas regularly hosted musicians.

While the closure happened recently, the restaurant space is already transforming into Kalamish, a new Turkish eatery that will also feature a menu of Mediterranean dishes.
