Retro-inspired diner planned for Vancouver's Gastown

A Canadian chain moved out of the location last year.

A new restaurant styled as a retro diner called Aureliana is set to move into the former Hastings El Furniture Warehouse location.

As Vancouver's oldest neighbourhood, several things in Gastown could be consider retro.

Adding to that will be Aureliana, a new restaurant. While most incoming restaurants announce they're coming soon, Aureliana is looking at opening in 2025, more than four months away at the earliest.

However, a website and an Instagram account give limited clues as to what is coming.

"An embodiment of the vintage 80s & 90s," reads one post.

"From neon lights to nostalgic tunes," reads another.

The website simply shows a waitress in 60s diner garb with a hamburger.

What is known is where it'll be going: 156 W Hastings St.

That was the former home of the Hastings location of El Furniture Warehouse. The Canadian chain closed that location in 2023 after a decade in Gastown.

Founded in Vancouver, the Warehouse Group now has locations in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, along with one spot in Seattle. In Vancouver they operate two El Furniture Warehouse locations and two branded The Dime.
