An Italian restaurant that gained a loyal following from its original location in Yaletown is celebrating the first anniversary of its West End outpost right now, but they're also prepping their third location.
Robba da Matti is moving into 12 Powell Street, which had previously been the original location of Bao Down in Vancouver. The Asian-fusion spot currently operates a location in Olympic Village. The 12 Powell address has been in the Bao Down family for five years, though they did briefly rebrand as "Edwards Seafood." Prior to that, the restaurant was home to Lily Mae's Comfort Café.
The restaurant seats 25, including on a mezzanine level. It appears Robba da Matti is making the most of the exposed brick wall and vintage vibes, while kicking things up a notch for a casually elegant interior.
The family-run restaurant, which focuses on housemade pasta dishes and regional Italian specialties, began nearly a decade ago on Mainland Street as Yaletown L'Antipasto. They rebranded a couple of years ago, and shifted their emphasis to pasta, though you can still order antipasti, including a combo platter called "Yaletown Antipasto."
In 2019, Robba da Matti opened up at 1906 Haro Street in Vancouver's West End, taking over the former Adesso Bistro location.
Now they are finishing up renovations in Gastown for Robba da Matti number three. No date has been set for the debut, however, the restaurant indicates they hope to be "opening soon."
Currently, you can order take-out and delivery from Robba da Matti, and their Yaletown location is open for dine-in guests. The West End location will be re-opening to dine-in customers soon as well. You can follow Robba da Matti on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
