D.I.C.E.D. Discovery Café is the restaurant branch of a culinary social enterprise. The business will close its current location near Jericho Beach in Vancouver in December 2024.

A Vancouver cafe known for its proximity to the beach and reliable menu of breakfasts, burgers, and beer will close its doors before the end of 2024.

Operators of D.I.C.E.D. Discovery Cafe announced on Sunday, Nov. 24 that the business was unable to reach a lease renewal agreement with its landlords, the HI Vancouver Jericho Beach hostel.

D.I.C.E.D. (which stands for Diverse Innovation in Culinary Educational Development) is the multi-prong venture of longtime hospitality veteran Don Guthro. In addition to being a casual café, they also do catering and teaching. Specifically, D.I.C.E.D. is a social enterprise that assists culinary students with training and placement.

"We are a 'Self Funded Social Purpose Hospitality Business,'" reads the business profile on Google.

Now, after 15 years, the business is going to be looking for a new home base.

"Despite our best efforts and community support we were unable to negotiate a new lease with our landlords, the Jericho hostel," shared the business in its closure announcement on Instagram.

"While this is incredibly shocking and heartbreaking news for us, we know that it won't be the end for D.I.C.E.D. restaurants," they continue. "We will be looking for new opportunities in the city and hope to see each and every one of your lovely smiling faces again."

The closure notice gave D.I.C.E.D. a chance to express profound gratitude for any and all who had dined there once or regularly over its tenure at the Jericho.

"We have made countless beautiful memories here that will be with us always."

With closure on the horizon, D.I.C.E.D. plans to usher in the end of a storied run with "deals, specials, and lots of laughs."

The restaurant's menu includes a.m. offerings like Eggs Benny, a signature breakfast sandwich, and even a breakfast pizza. For lunch and dinner, the café serves approachable fare like nachos, soup, salad, and numerous handhelds, like their much-loved burgers (including a vegan option)  as well as items like fish tacos and chicken sandwiches.

D.I.C.E.D. Discovery Café is located at 1515 Discovery St and is open Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The last day of business at D.I.C.E.D. will be December 15, 2024.
