A popular catering and packaged foods operation is taking a making step soon by opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant location in Vancouver.
Tayybeh, a social enterprise that began as a pop-up dinner experience showcasing the food and stories of immigrant women from Syria, is in the process of launching a restaurant operation in Kitsilano. Moving into the long-empty former Linh Cafe at 2836 W 4th Ave, Tayybeh has been teasing the new location this month on its social media.
"Our amazing customers have been asking us years ago when we’d open a new location! We finally have an answer!" shared Tayybeh.
A representative for Tayybeh tells V.I.A. the plan is to operate the space as a café and souk (marketplace) inspired by market experiences in the Middle East. Customers will find coffee and light fare on the menu, and, in the market space, Tayybeh's retail items.
Launched in 2016, Tayybeh began as a way to give refugee Syrian women an opportunity to thrive in their new home city. Tayybeh has since grown to offer not only a catering menu but also packaged foods and frozen meals, available for delivery or in select local stores.
"Many of the refugees who have been working with Tayybeh to craft the best Syrian food catering in Vancouver are now Canadian citizens," noted Tayybeh on its blog in Dec. 2022.
An exact opening day has not yet been set for Tayybeh's West 4th Avenue launch, however the business hopes the doors could be open as soon as late July or early August. Follow @tayybeh.syrian on Instagram for updates.
