Vancouver bakery cafe known for Korean twist donuts has closed

The bakeshop was known for its Korean "twist" donuts with creative flavours

A bakery-cafe on Vancouver's Robson Street known for its Korean "twist" donuts and creative flavours has closed up shop after just over a year and a half in business.

Nukid opened at 1660 Robson St in February 2022, and immediately drew crowds for its unique sweets and treats.

However, as the end of October neared, Nukid shared news it the end had arrived for the bakeshop via a sign posted to its door. The last day of business was Oct. 22. Nukid's website remains active, however, its Instagram account has been deactivated. The windows of the shop are now papered over.

Nukid's specialty was kkwabaegi, which are twisted donuts that are popular at Korean bakeries and street vendor stalls. It's a basic yeast donut base that is fried and loaded with toppings in sweet, savoury, or combo options. Nukid's twisted donuts were draped in toppings like bananas and Nutella, strawberries and whipped cream, or its "Ugly Honey Garlic."

Their "Corn Cream" donut had a corn-infused cream with cornflakes on top and a pleasant not-too-sweet taste, while the neon orange squiggles of the potato and cheddar cheese appeased anyone seeking something savoury. Other flavours included Nukid's S'mores, Maple, or Choco Crunch kkwabaegi.

In addition to the twist donuts, Nukid had filled round Korean donuts, Basque burnt cheesecakes, Sweet Potato Cake, and a few more sweet treats.

The shop also had a menu of coffee and tea drinks, as well as other fun non-alcoholic beverages, like iced lattes made with Jolly Pong, a Korean cereal.

Before becoming the colourful, almost cartoony, Nukid, the address was previously Bob Pochana, a casual Thai spot sibling to Bob Likes Thai Food

V.I.A. has reached out to Nukid and will update if the business owners can offer any insight into the closure and if they are launching a new concept in the same space.
