Is Rover can-ready? Is Whiskers the model of a modern cat? Is your fuzzy buddy ready to be the face of a local beer?
Luppolo Brewery is one of two Canadian breweries working with Veterinarians Without Borders Canada (VWB) to raise money for national and international animal aid, by making someone's pet the face of a pair of limited-release beers.
The Animals and Ales contest launched last week and will run until May 16, with people voting for different dogs, cats, birds, or whatever species of pet one might have. Pets can still be entered.
“By partnering with two Canadian breweries, we are continuing in the spirit of lifting each other up by encouraging pet owners to celebrate their beloved pets while simultaneously helping animals and communities, worldwide, that otherwise have no access to animal care,” says Charmain Brett, the VWB executive director.
The contest is a fundraiser for VWB; people essentially donate money and are given votes. A $5 donation gets you 5 votes and a $2,500 donation nets you 2,500 votes.
VWB operates in Canada and abroad, with operations in countries like Ukraine, South Sudan, and Pakistan.
The winners will be announced on May 17. Two winners will be selected, with one pet getting put on a limited-release Zest in Show IPA can and the other being put on cans from Fixed Gear Brewing from Guelph, Ont. They'll also receive a framed print of the label and a four-pack of the beer.
Second, third, and fourth place in each category will win a custom set of coasters with pictures of the top four pets in their category.
