Vancouver burger chain closing its original location after 14 years

"It’s been an honour to serve you, and we’re grateful for being part of your lives."

A Vancouver restaurant chain known for its epic burgers is set to close its original location after 14 years.

Romer's Burger Bar will close its restaurant at 1873 W 4th Ave in Kitsilano. The last day of business will be Sunday, October 27, according to the restaurant's social media, which made the announcement online Wednesday (Oct. 23).

"Thank you for your support over the past decade. It’s been an honour to serve you, and we’re grateful for being part of your lives," shared operators on Romer's Instagram feed.

Romer’s was started by Wayne Holm, known for his successful career in the food service industry, which included part-ownership in The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, co-founder of the Spectra Group of Great Restaurants, president of Cara’s restaurant group, and co-founder of Milestones.

Chef Jim Romer and restaurant entrepreneur Scott Ward, both part of the original Milestones development group, partnered with Holm to found Romer’s.

The Kitsilano Romer's opened in 2010 and the brand enjoyed quick expansion. The restaurant is known for its approachable menu of dishes like salads, bowls, pizza, and appetizers, but is most often thought of as a burger spot, thanks to its extensive range of fully-stacked options.

Launched at the height of the "big burger" era, when extra-thick patties and heaps of toppings were the style, Romer's landed with concoctions like its signature "Man's Man" Burger, featuring tomatoes, bacon, dark ale cheddar, onion strings, and mustard aioli.

Following the closure of the original Romer's on West 4th Avenue there will be three remaining Romer's restaurant locations: River District (8683 Kerr St, Vancouver), Port Moody (101 Morrissey Rd,) and Lynn Valley (1199 Lynn Valley Rd, North Vancouver).
