East Van's popular Prototype Coffee is expanding and will debut its second outpost next week.
The Vancouver microcroastery has joined Mount Pleasant's Please! Beverage Co space to operate a daytime cafe "tasting room" out of the cocktail business at 222 W 5th Ave. The new cafe joins its other storefront at 883 E Hastings St.
Please! opened the location in the spring of 2023, using the front for retail and dining/drinking and the back portion for production of its line of canned cocktails and infused spirits.
Prototype made the announcement on social media, describing the new location as follows: "It’ll be Prototype Mount Pleasant in the morning and early afternoon, then transition to Please! Beverage Co in the late afternoon for their cocktails and food service."
As Prototype notes, the Please! space is big and bright and features indoor and outdoor seating.
On the menu, Prototype will offer about 15 to 20 kinds of espresso daily and a full service brew and espresso bar.
In addition to their full coffee menu, Prototype will have its signature "waffle donuts."
"It’s an exciting opportunity for us to try out some new and innovative ways of doing things behind the bar and also focus a little more on the tasting experience for our guests," added Prototype.
The new Mount Pleasant tasting room at Please! moves into soft launch mode starting Monday, Aug. 12. The hours will be Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
