It appears, after 20 years on West Broadway, the New India Buffet has closed.
No announcement about the closure was made, but the long-time restaurant's windows are papered over at 901 W Broadway.
At the same time, the New India website has been deactivated and the phone number has been disconnected. The last activity on New India Buffet's social media accounts was in February, though reviews from the public were posted into March 2025.
Currently, Google lists the restaurant as "temporarily closed." A business license application with the city for 2025 is still pending.
The New India Buffet has been in the area for more than 20 years. It originally opened in 2004 at 805 West Broadway; 10 years later it moved down the block to 901 W Broadway, where it has been ever since.
However, the days may have been numbered for the New India Buffet in 2020 when a rezoning application was made for the property. A 12-story hotel with 147 rooms was proposed for the location; that proposal was approved by the city council in 2022.
A revised proposal, with some design updates and 151 rooms, was submitted to the city in January of 2024 and approved later that same year.
