With construction underway on its forthcoming third location at 1708 Davie St, Sula Indian Restaurant has shared some details about what guests can expect when it opens in the new year.
"The new Sula Davie Street location will introduce an innovative modern Indian cuisine concept while honouring the heritage flavours that Sula patrons have come to love," describes a press release.
The Davie Street branch of Sula will reflect a bit of a departure from what fans of the Indian restaurant have grown accustomed to at its locations on Commercial Drive and Main Street.
'Cherished family recipes' adapted 'for today's modern diner'
"We are taking cherished family recipes and the heritage Indian flavours that we grew up with and adapting them for today's modern diner," says Sula's chef, Bal Ajagaonkar. "It's a delicate balance of paying homage to the spice mixtures perfected over centuries while introducing innovative elements to the dishes to present them in different ways. We are thrilled to introduce this exciting new concept in Vancouver's West End neighbourhood and be part of the community there."
Vancouver's West End emerged as the top choice for where in the city Sula could best grow its brand. The location will boast a modern interior design by Vancouver-based architect David Wong, Principal of WHG Designs.
Sula on Davie Street replaces Kesari Kitchen
Kesari Kitchen, a restaurant specializing in "divine, healthy Indian cuisine," shut down after just two years in Vancouver's West End.
Prior to being Kesari, that location was home to Pacifico; before that, it was the burger spot Relish.
The short-lived Indian restaurant had a large menu with an emphasis on dishes made in-house, including sauces, marinated meats, and bread.
Sula announced at the beginning of the year it would be headed to Davie Street, however, at the time, the business did not disclose the planned address.
Back in February, the award-winning restaurant released some details about its third location.
Currently, Sula on Davie is accepting reservations for its forthcoming Davie Street restaurant starting January 15, 2024.
