A new Italian sandwich shop will open in downtown Vancouver very soon.
Dante Italian Sandwich is opening Nov. 28 at 360 Robson St., according to a press release from the business.
The new sandwich shop offers a variety of classic Italian sandwiches with house-made schiacciata bread enclosing Italian meats, veggies, and cheeses. There'll also be a few grilled sandwiches as well.
“Fresh-baked schiacciata sandwiches are a staple in Tuscany, and we’re excited to introduce this beloved Italian street food to Vancouver diners,” says co-founder Dom Morra.
The classic sandwiches are priced at $16, with varieties like the Inferno (featuring capicollo piccante and soppresata), Mortazza (which has mortadella and pistachio crumble), and the Americano (with roast turkey). Grilled sandwiches are $14.
The menu also features Italian desserts, like pistachio cannoli and tiramisu.
Dante Italian Sandwich is owned by Dom and Frank Morra.
The pair are also behind the Straight Brooklyn Pizza chain (one of which is right next door) and Via Tevere, two well-known pizza brands in Vancouver. They also own another pizza venture, Don't Argue, which runs out of their Caffe Soccavo on Commercial Drive.
Via Tevere has been a staple on Victoria Drive in East Van for over a decade and is known for its Neapolitan-style pizzas.
Don't Argue is a resurrection of the brand that once called 3240 Main St home, albeit before the Morras took over the location and, earlier this year, the Don't Argue banner.
While the other locations are focused on pizzas, Dante won't be their first foray into Italian sandwiches. Via Tevere also operates the Il Saltimbocca food truck, which makes wood-fired sandwiches.
