After nearly 15 years of slinging sandwiches in Vancouver, Meat & Bread is making a major addition to its menu: Pizza.

Starting Tuesday, June 4, Meat & Bread will introduce its new line-up of pizzas at a couple of its restaurant locations, including one in Vancouver.

Meat & Bread's new pizzas will be built on Pinsa Romana crust. With roots in Ancient Rome, this style of hand-pressed crust is lighter than typical pizza crust.

"These crusts, with their high hydration and slow fermentation process, offer a unique texture—a crispy, thin exterior with a light, airy interior. This modern adaptation of traditional Roman sourdough uses a blend of wheat, soy, and rice flours, making it easier to digest and tastes fantastic!" describes Meat & Bread.

Available in two sizes, the new pizza line will launch with the following menu:

  • Margarita with Arugula and Stracciatella
  • Mortadella and Pistachio
  • Hot Honey Pepperoni
  • Huli Huli (Hawiian-inspired Huli Huli sauce, chili marinated pineapple, pickled red onion, scallions, mozzarella, and sliced porchetta)

"This new offering is set to expand our dinner service beyond our beloved sandwiches and sides, catering to both dine-in and delivery customers," shares Meat & Bread in a media release.

"While our lunch service remains busy, we have the oven capacity in the evenings to incorporate pizzas seamlessly into our menu," explains Meat & Bread.

Currently, only one Meat & Bread in Vancouver is open past 4 p.m., which is the one at 625 Robson St.

Meat & Bread began with a sole location in Vancouver's Gastown in 2010 and found swift success thanks to its calling card roasted pork (porchetta) sandwich, with the pork sliced and chopped to order at the front counter.

The brand is now open to franchising and has four Vancouver shops as well as one each in Calgary and Austin, Texas under the umbrella of Abbotsford-based Fox & Crane Restaurant Group. The company also operates the Good Taco franchise, which has locations in Langley, Chilliwack, Burnaby, Abbotsford, and Primo Tapia, Mexico.
