There's no better time for cozy comfort eats than late fall and winter in Vancouver, which makes this new midday pop-up all the more tantalizing.
Building on its rep as a great spot for locally-roasted coffee and delicious casual eats, Vancouver's own Kafka's is launching a fresh lunch service out of its Gastown location, featuring fresh-made stews and fresh-baked focaccia.
The new Lunch Bar pop-up launches officially on Monday, Nov. 28 (but is in a soft-launch mode already this week, for the stew-curious). Operating weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the cafe at 151 W Hastings St, Kafka's Lunch Bar will be centred on weekly stew specials, one plant-based and one with meat.
The pop-up is kicking things off by offering a Moroccan Lamb Stew, topped with cumin sour cream and green onion curls, and a Squash and Chickpea Stew (vegan), topped with fresh cilantro and green onion.
However, guests can also enjoy Kafka Gastown's menu of eats like a "Good Ol’ Grilled Cheese" sandwich, a nourishing vegetarian Glory Bowl, loaded breakfast sammies and more.
Kafka's prides itself on doing its own baking, which means you'll get house-made breads for your sandwiches, and the cafe's own in-house cookie and pastry creations.
It's been a busy year for Kafka's; the coffee biz not only opened up a new high-profile location at the city's popular new urban park, but it also said farewell to its original Main Street location.
The Main Street cafe had been the HQ for Kafka's in-house sandwich branch, Lil Bird, and while the location is defunct, the sandwich program lives on at the other cafe locations. However, the separate Lil Bird Instagram handle has just been flipped over to showcase Gastown's Lunch Bar offering. Follow them at @lunchbaryvr on the social media platform.
