Richmond RCMP is seeking dash-cam footage or witnesses after finding a deceased woman in the Fraser River.

On Oct. 3, RCMP received a report of a distressed woman yelling for help in the Fraser River. Frontline officers arrived at the scene and asked the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard.

The unconscious woman, who was not accessible from shore, was found by officers and pulled from the river with the help of a civilian boat operator near the No. 2 Road Bridge.

The officer who pulled the woman from the river began CPR while she was transported back to shore. Despite all life-saving efforts and being transported to a local hospital, the woman did not survive.

“While the death does not appear to be suspicious, we are attempting to retrace the movements of the deceased prior to her being located on the Fraser River,” said Richmond RCMP media relations officer Adriana O’Malley.

After investigation, the RCMP found footage of the woman walking north on No. 2 Road in the direction of No. 2 Road Bridge.

Richmond RCMP is asking anyone who was driving in the following areas between 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. to review their dash-cam footage:

  • North or southbound on the No. 2 Road Bridge
  • River Road and No. 2 Road

Video canvassing in the area has been done, but RCMP are asking businesses in the areas of No. 2 Road/Westminster Highway and Russ Baker Way/No. 2 Road Bridge who have not spoken with police to contact Richmond RCMP.

Richmond RCMP is investigating this case in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service .

Those who were in the area and may have dash-cam footage or businesses with video surveillance are asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2024-31464.
