Where there's currently a car lot there may one day soon stand a 91 m (300 ft.) tower of glass and concrete.
A new building proposal, from Yuanheng BH Developments, has come forward for the intersection of West Broadway and Hemlock Street. The site, 1395 West Broadway, is currently a Toyota dealership.
The proposed structure would be primarily office space, adding more than 24,400 square meters of space. There would also be commercial space, including room for a restaurant, according to the city's website. The structure would include a podium several stories high, and terraces with green space.
Along with the modern design, an artistic element is being included in the design.
"LED lights illumination will follow the facet outlines and is proposed as public art," state the architects in the proposal to the city.
With the angular, irregular design of the building's sides, the lines of LED lights would crisscross at angles.
The new building would also be located a block away from the new South Granville subway station, being built as part of the Broadway subway. The developers suggest that this proposal will be followed by other, similar ones as the subway route gets built up.
"The new transit line will run underneath Broadway with a station just to the west of the site. Changes to density and height along Broadway developments will be forthcoming when the Broadway Plan gets implemented," they state in the application.
It's also linked to another proposal from Yuanheng; it's committed to building a fully city-owned seniors center at 1316 West Broadway.
The proposal is currently at the public comment period.
