City staff are proposing liquor be allowed at three more street plazas in Kitsilano and Fairview in Vancouver. A pilot program launched in May 2021.

After allowing alcohol at three street plazas earlier this year, councillors are being asked to double that.

In a report coming to Vancouver city council next week city staff are suggesting public drinking be allowed at three more plazas on city streets, one in Kitsilano and two in Fairview in the South Granville shopping area.

"Adding new sites to the pilot will allow staff to test new locations, partnerships and management models, while continuing to collect data to inform long-range public space policy and projects," states city staff in the report.

It costs the city about $5,000 maximum to set up and run each plaza until the end of this year's program (Oct. 11).

The three new locations are:

  • Granville Street and West 13 Avenue
  • Granville Street and West 14 Avenue
  • West 4 Avenue and Maple Street

The three locations approved in May are:

  • Cambie Street and West 17 Avenue
  • The plaza on the 800-block of Robson Street
  • East 27 Avenue at Fraser Street.

If approved the city will collect public in put on all the plazas to inform future decisions on the pilot project.
