It seems like everyone who's rented an apartment in Vancouver has a story about it.
While often it's about the high cost or beautiful neighbourhood, Kevin Smith had a very different experience. The Clerks and Dogma director attended four months of classes at the Vancouver Film School in the early 90s and his first apartment was an eye-opening experience, which he shared with Vancouver radio station The Peak recently.
"We found a place, an apartment, in Gastown," he told the hosts. "I go to the sink, which is right across from my bed, and turn on the sink and roaches come pouring out."
It was the first time he'd seen a cockroach in person.
The experience was bad enough that he immediately found a second place that was roach-free, though the guy at his new place (George) was worried the problem would follow Smith. Luckily Smith's encyclopedia of films won George over.
Oh, also, Smith's mom calls him Tiger.

In 2018, Smith took us on a Twitter photo tour of Vancouver that began with a real-time look at the garbage outside his hotel room and included memories of the McPizza and where on Granville Street he tried the Hawaiian-style one.
Speaking of fast food, right now Smith's fictional restaurant Mooby's is in Vancouver as part of a multi-city North American pop-up tour. The burger and fries joint set up its temporary gigs on March 8 and will be around through the 21st. In order to get your hands on some Hater Totz and Cow Tippers you'll need to purchase tickets in advance.
