An employee at a McDonald’s in Surrey has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a release, McDonald’s Canada states that it closed its Surrey store, located at 8586 120 St, after an employee tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, Sept. 12. However, it adds that it reopened Sunday following a thorough cleaning and sanitation by a certified third party.

The company adds that "Maintaining the health and well-being of our crew and guests is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor and adapt measures, where necessary."

McDonald's says that all crew members who may have been in close contact with the employee have been asked to self-quarantine until further information is available. The employee worked their last shift on Sept.10 from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Any guests who may have visited the restaurant on Sept. 10 should consult the BC Centre for Disease Control website for further information.

COVID-19 is spread by respiratory droplets when a person who is sick coughs or sneezes. It can also be spread when a healthy person touches an object or surface (e.g. a doorknob or a table) with the virus on it and then touches their mouth, nose or eyes before washing their hands. Most people who get COVID-19 have only mild disease, but a few people can get very sick and may need to go to hospital. The symptoms of COVID-19 may include fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell and/or diarrhea.
