Police are seeking witnesses to an early morning collision on Granville Street that claimed the life of one person.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m., May 16, when a dark Toyota Corolla heading north on Granville entered the intersection with West 46 Avenue and crossed into oncoming traffic.
"Investigators believe the Corolla was speeding when it crossed the centre line, side-swiped a taxi, struck a Porsche, then went airborne over a truck before landing on top of a Hyundai Elantra and coming to rest back on the pavement," says police in a press release.
The driver of the Corolla, a man in his 20s, died at the scene after being trapped in the car, according to police.
The drivers of the Porsche and Elantra were taken to the hospital, according to the police. Nobody in the taxi or truck was injured. Granville Street was closed for several hours after the incident but has since reopened.
Police believe speed was a factor. Anyone who saw the car before the incident or may have dashcam footage of the area is being asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-604-717-3012.
