Firefighters closed traffic on a busy street in Downtown Vancouver as they battled a blaze in a vacant building.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to a fire in a vacant building located on Seymour Street between Robson and Smithe streets just after 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, Ass. Chief of Operations Pierre Morin told V.I.A.
Twenty-five firefighters and seven fire apparatus were dispatched to the scene and the fire was "knocked down quickly," he said.
"It was a small fire caused by some squatters who were burning rubbish to stay warm," he added, noting that there were no injuries and minimal damage to the boarded-up building.
Morin said traffic was blocked on Seymour Street for roughly half an hour and is now open.
The building, located at 852 Seymour St., was built in 1924, making it roughly 100 years old, according to BC Assessment.
